About the position

The High School Assistant Girls Swimming Coach at Hammond Central HS is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the swimming program under the guidance of the athletic director and building principal. The role emphasizes participation and friendly competition, focusing on the development of students' physical skills, leadership, and good citizenship through sportsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible to the building principal and the school Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
  • Establish objectives for the program and develop a plan for the implementation of these objectives.
  • Develop the athletic program to emphasize participation and friendly competition, with a secondary focus on won-lost records.
  • Recognize athletic activities as integral to a well-balanced educational program and coordinate them with the normal school program.
  • Provide vigorous activities that develop physical fitness and efficiency of the cardiovascular system.
  • Develop principles of leadership and good citizenship in students through sportsmanship experiences.
  • Foster self-expression, self-confidence, and self-discipline through physical, emotional, and social experiences.
  • Be knowledgeable of rules, regulations, and policies set forth by the Hammond School Board and relevant athletic associations.
  • Prepare an athletic budget, select and hire officials, requisition equipment, and provide team transportation.
  • Follow outlined procedures for caring for injured athletes and ensure all participants have required physical examinations and certificates.
  • Check player eligibility and maintain eligibility lists in collaboration with the Director of Athletics.
  • Develop plans for issuing and receiving play equipment and maintain the condition of all assigned equipment.
  • Develop sound public relations with parents and media personnel.
  • Attend departmental staff meetings and professional growth activities as approved by the principal.
  • Cooperate with other athletic staff members to establish rules for conduct, dress, and appearance.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of the sport being taught.
  • Thorough understanding of participants physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  • Skill in teaching the fundamentals of the sport.
  • Desirable character and personality traits.
  • High moral standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with pupils, parents, custodians, officials, staff members, and administration.
  • Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to the instructor's responsibilities.
  • Availability to supervise activities beyond the school day.
