The High School Athletic Director (TOSA) at Sierra High School plays a pivotal role in fostering student achievement among athletes while leading coaches to prioritize educational success over athletic performance. This position is guided by the administration and involves overseeing the entire athletics program, ensuring that it aligns with district policies and promotes a culture of excellence and sportsmanship. The Athletic Director is responsible for managing the budget and financial procedures related to the athletics program, ensuring compliance with all district financial policies. This includes overseeing the Adjunct Duties process, which involves coordinating with the Adjunct Committee, distributing duties to teachers, and managing time sheets for adjunct payments. In addition to financial oversight, the Athletic Director promotes a positive culture encapsulated by the motto "Victory with Honor" and maintains high standards of sportsmanship. The role requires effective communication with the Human Resource Department regarding the hiring and clearance of new coaches, as well as coordinating mandatory training sessions for coaches, including CPR, First Aid, and Concussion training. The Athletic Director is also responsible for scheduling and managing both home and away athletic events, ensuring that all CIF rules and regulations are adhered to, and that coaches are kept informed of any updates or changes. The position involves regular meetings with coaches to disseminate information and gather feedback, as well as organizing awards and recognition programs for athletes. The Athletic Director must ensure that all CIF policies regarding student transfers are followed and work collaboratively with administration and coaches to foster positive behavior among athletes and spectators alike. This role is essential in supporting the overall mission of MUSD to provide a meaningful and student-centered educational experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee student achievement of all athletes and lead coaches to focus on student achievement as a priority before athletics.
  • Manage the budget and account procedures related to the Athletics Program, ensuring compliance with district financial policies.
  • Oversee the Adjunct Duties process, including meeting with the Adjunct Committee and managing time sheeting for payment of adjunct duties.
  • Promote a positive culture of 'Victory with Honor' and uphold high standards of sportsmanship.
  • Process extra pay assignments for coaches and communicate with HR regarding new coach clearances.
  • Coordinate and maintain records of mandatory training for coaches, including CPR, First Aid, and Concussion training.
  • Schedule and manage home and away athletic events, including scheduling officials for games.
  • Ensure compliance with CIF rules and regulations, communicating updates to coaches.
  • Hold meetings with coaches to dispense information and gather input regarding the program.
  • Organize awards and recognition programs for athletes.
  • Ensure coaches contact incoming athletes from the high school attendance boundary only.
  • Support administration and coaches with open communication regarding program issues.
  • Work with HR, Payroll, and other district departments positively.

Requirements

  • Must hold a clear multiple subject credential or a clear single subject teaching credential.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Possession of a valid California teaching credential.
  • English Learner certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a teacher in a public-school setting for at least 3 years.
  • Voluntary or paid leadership experience.
