About the position

The Long-Term Substitute English Teacher at Westborough High School is responsible for fostering a love of learning among students while adhering to the DESE grade level curriculum standards. This role involves creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment, implementing differentiated lessons, and collaborating with colleagues to enhance student engagement and growth. The position is full-time and is expected to last for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year, starting immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming, supportive, and equitable learning environment.
  • Plan and implement differentiated lessons and ongoing formative assessment based on district objectives and the abilities, needs, and interests of students.
  • Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional design.
  • Partner and collaborate with team teachers, department colleagues, and specialists.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Demonstrate a belief in a growth mindset for students as well as for self.
  • Provide learning experiences across all subject areas as guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards.
  • Evaluate instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning, engagement, and confidence in learning.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field.
  • MA DESE license in 9-12 English.
  • SEI Endorsement.
  • Experience teaching English Language Learners in a diverse public school setting.
  • Experience with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges.
  • Strong background in English instruction.
  • Demonstrated skills in effectively and appropriately integrating technology into lesson design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional certification in special education and/or ESL.
  • AP Certification preferred.
