About the position

The High School Head Varsity Football Coach at Bennett High School is responsible for leading and supervising the football program, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship among student-athletes. This role involves coaching the varsity squad, overseeing junior varsity and assistant coaches, and coordinating with the athletic department and school administration to ensure compliance with guidelines and policies. The coach will also engage with the community to promote youth football activities and fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the entire football program, including coaching the varsity squad and supervising JV & assistant coaches.
  • Provides guidance to junior varsity, freshman, and middle school programs.
  • Works with Bennett Rec to offer guidance in youth football activities.
  • Implements district athletic department policies and coordinates summer lifting, 7 on 7, camps, and other off-season activities.
  • Assists in the selection and evaluation of Junior Varsity and assistant coaching staff.
  • Ensures all athletic activities conform to CHSAA guidelines.
  • Communicates high school football schedule and travel for out-of-town trips.
  • Verifies ready-to-play requirements of the high school athletic office and adherence to school eligibility.
  • Organizes middle school communications for incoming freshmen regarding the high school football program.
  • Correlates practice schedules of all football squads with the Athletic Director.
  • Supervises practice fields and playing fields during team participation.
  • Coordinates, promotes, and participates in fundraising efforts for the team.
  • Supervises students while traveling to away competitions and cares for injured athletes.
  • Maintains and oversees the storage of all equipment and uniforms.
  • Regularly updates MaxPreps, HUDL, and other state statistical tracking platforms.
  • Prepares award lists and season records, and works with media to encourage public interest in the program.
  • Attends all meetings regarding football participation and encourages booster club participation.
  • Maintains positive relationships with other coaches and communicates with players about personal development.
  • Holds meetings with parents to inform them about the program and expectations.
  • Leads by example in promoting sportsmanship and encourages participation in the football program.

Requirements

  • Must have completed all CHSAA requirements including CHSSA Coaches Test, CPR Certification, Concussion Certificate, Mandatory Reports Certificate, Mental Health/Suicide Prevention, and NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching.
  • Must complete Bennett School District 29J requirements including Finger Printing and Background check.
  • Educational Level: High School Diploma.
  • Experience: 3 Years High School Head Varsity Coaching experience preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Eye-hand, mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity, and the ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, and sit.
  • Ability to travel between locations.
  • Course work in sport coaching and prevention of athletic injuries is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in coaching at the high school level.
  • Knowledge of current trends in football and participation in coaching clinics.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $4,800-$5,600 depending on experience.
