About the position

The High School Head Girls Basketball Coach at Morton High School is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the girls basketball program. This role emphasizes participation and sportsmanship over win-loss records, aiming to foster leadership, self-confidence, and physical development among student-athletes. The coach will work closely with the athletic director and school administration to ensure compliance with regulations and to manage the operational aspects of the program.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible to the building principal and the school Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
  • Establish objectives for the program and develop a plan for the implementation of these objectives.
  • Develop the athletic program to emphasize participation and friendly competition.
  • Recognize athletic activities as an integral part of a well-balanced educational program.
  • Provide vigorous activities that develop physical fitness and skills.
  • Develop principles of leadership and good citizenship through sportsmanship.
  • Foster self-expression, self-confidence, and self-discipline in students.
  • Know the rules, regulations, and policies set forth by relevant authorities.
  • Prepare an athletic budget, select and hire officials, requisition equipment, and provide team transportation.
  • Follow procedures for caring for injured athletes.
  • Ensure all participants have the required physical examinations and certificates on file.
  • Check player eligibility and maintain eligibility lists.
  • Develop plans for issuing and receiving play equipment.
  • Develop sound public relations with parents and media personnel.
  • Attend departmental staff meetings and professional growth activities.
  • Cooperate with other athletic staff to establish rules for conduct and appearance.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of the sport being taught.
  • Thorough understanding of participants physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  • Skill in teaching the fundamentals of the sport.
  • Desirable character and personality traits.
  • High moral standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to the sport.
  • Availability to supervise activities beyond the school day.
