About the position

Junipero Serra High School is seeking a Long Term Substitute Mathematics Teacher for the 2024/2025 academic year. The role involves instructing high school students in various mathematics subjects, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB, using a student-centered approach aligned with Common Core State Standards. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching, possess strong organizational and classroom management skills, and be able to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct Mathematics content and skills using a student-centered approach guided by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
  • Adapt material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
  • Evaluate each student's progress in Math skills using a wide array of formative and summative assessments.
  • Create effective assessments that track and ensure student learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Math Department on curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Create and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment for learning.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a productive classroom environment.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in service education activities.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members to address health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Regularly communicate with parents and school counselors about individual student progress.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school.
  • Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
  • Share in the sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably with a major in Mathematics or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience as a teacher in a comprehensive high school setting.
  • Two years of minimum experience in teaching AP Calculus AB and BC.
  • Teaching Credential and/or Master's degree is required.
  • Knowledge of and advocacy for the mission of Catholic Education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred knowledge of Google Suite (Google Drive, Google Classroom, etc.).
  • Prior experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) such as PowerSchool.
