About the position

The Regular Education Classroom Teacher at Douglas High School is responsible for guiding students toward gaining knowledge and skills to become productive citizens. Under the direction of the site administration, the teacher creates a conducive learning environment, establishes effective rapport with students, and motivates them to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge. The teacher will also establish positive relationships with parents and other school and district staff members.

Responsibilities

• Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media.
• Implement the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
• Identify the differences in needs, abilities, and interests among students and provide appropriate instruction.
• Employ a variety of classroom assessment techniques.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
• Develop and maintain a code of conduct for the classroom.
• Plan for and participate in professional improvement activities.
• Establish and maintain two-way communication with parents, students, and other staff members.
• Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities on campus.
• Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among the staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education or a related field.
• Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching Certificate issued by the State of Nevada.
• Considerable knowledge of effective teaching techniques and strategies.
• Skill to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks.
• Ability to develop lessons consistent with State Academic Content Standards.
