About the position

The High School Math Teacher at Heron Virtual Academy of South Carolina (HVASC) is responsible for delivering online math instruction to students in grades 8-12. This role focuses on providing individualized support and guidance to students, managing their learning processes, and ensuring they meet academic goals. The teacher will work primarily from home but will need to travel occasionally for school functions such as state testing.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of students' academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in students' achievement.
  • Prepare students for high stakes standardized tests.
  • Conduct live synchronous teaching for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Provide asynchronous support, including planning course objectives and preparing learning plans.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and national teams regarding instruction and data-driven decision making.
  • Be open to coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate tools.
  • Submit grades and maintain a grade book, ensuring academic honesty and integrity.
  • Organize social and educational activities for students and families.

Requirements

  • Valid Department of Education South Carolina state High School Math teaching certificate.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Six months of student teaching experience.
  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align with K12 curriculum.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
  • Ability to problem solve independently and maintain high organization levels.
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
