About the position

The High School Program Assistant for the Building Trades Program at the Grundy Area Vocational Center is a full-time position dedicated to supporting the educational needs of students in the carpentry and construction fields. This role is essential in assisting lead teachers with the supervision and facilitation of student learning both in the classroom and on construction sites. The assistant will play a vital role in ensuring that students are engaged in hands-on learning experiences that promote skilled performance in building trades. The position requires the assistant to help maintain a safe and productive learning environment, which includes overseeing students during practical activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and assisting with record-keeping related to student progress and safety. The assistant will also be responsible for transporting students on GAVC activity buses, which necessitates a valid driver's license and a commitment to student safety. The work schedule is structured around the school year, typically from August to May, with hours from approximately 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Candidates for this position should possess a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years of age. While prior experience in carpentry or construction is beneficial, it is not a strict requirement. The role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education and skilled trades, and who are eager to contribute to the development of high school juniors and seniors in a vocational setting.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • Classroom experience is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of carpentry and construction is helpful but not required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in carpentry or construction is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
