About the position

The High School Program Co-Op position at ADM Trucking is designed for high school seniors who are looking to gain practical experience in a professional environment while earning credit towards their education. This part-time, hourly role is part of ADM's 12-month Career Pathways program, which aims to provide students with hands-on experience in various operational areas including mechanics, wash bay operations, and dispatch/office administration. Students must be at least 17 years old, maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher, and meet attendance requirements to be eligible for the program. A formal letter of recommendation is also required for consideration. Upon selection, candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and a lift test as per ADM's policies. The program is structured to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience, with specific responsibilities tailored to each area of focus. The summer co-op runs from June 2024 to July 2024, with hours from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The fall and spring co-op sessions will allow students to work either from 8 am to 12 pm or from 12 pm to 4 pm, providing flexibility in scheduling. The program culminates in a graduation ceremony in May 2025, celebrating the achievements of the participants. Interns will be required to adhere to all government, company, and customer policies and regulations, including FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, DOL, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). It is important to note that interns are prohibited from driving motor vehicles or performing any work classified as hazardous by the Department of Labor, ensuring a safe working environment for all participants.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance duties with supervision.
  • Train to be a service mechanic.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of work area.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Recognize safety hazards in the work environment.
  • Maintain a good attendance record in the wash bay.
  • Work well with others in a team environment.
  • Conduct all job tasks with a positive safety attitude.
  • Lift hoses and work on wet surfaces in the wash bay.
  • Work at heights as required in the wash bay.
  • Lead a high volume of incoming calls in the dispatch office.
  • Respond appropriately to plants and customers.
  • Track goals and retrieve Driver/HOS information using the Dispatch System.
  • Communicate effectively with truck drivers and internal/external customers.
  • Make decisions regarding coverage for breakdowns and delays.
  • Coordinate replacement drivers for call-offs and build daily driver schedules.

Requirements

  • Students must be at least 17 years old and a senior in high school.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher.
  • Meet attendance requirements for the program.
  • Possess strong people and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly, read, comprehend, and communicate effectively in person or by phone.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods, heavy phone use, and perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, and kneeling.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a mechanical or technical field is preferred.
