About the position

Southbridge Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate High School Spanish Teacher for the 2024-25 school year. This position is part of a dynamic educational environment that serves approximately 2,200 students across six schools. The district is currently undergoing significant turnaround efforts, supported by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which presents unique opportunities for both teachers and students. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in this transformation, contributing to the development of a national demonstration site for successful implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies in partnership with the University of Connecticut. As a High School Spanish Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction that engages students and fosters a love for the Spanish language and culture. You will be expected to remain current with curriculum content, effectively plan and assess instructional strategies, and mentor students in their understanding of the curriculum. Classroom management and the promotion of high standards for student achievement are essential components of this role. You will also be tasked with using innovative approaches and technologies to enhance student learning and confidence. Equity and appreciation of diversity are core values at Southbridge Public Schools. As such, you will implement specific strategies to ensure equitable opportunities for all students, including those with special needs and English language learners. Collaboration with special education and English language learning specialists will be a key aspect of your responsibilities, as will preparing students for the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS). Responsibilities

  • Remain up to date regarding curriculum content.
  • Plan and assess curriculum and instruction effectively.
  • Mentor students' understanding of the curriculum and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Manage the classroom environment effectively.
  • Provide clear learning goals and use appropriate instructional techniques.
  • Utilize innovative approaches and technologies to enhance student learning.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Ensure equity and appreciation of diversity in learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with SPED and ELL specialists to meet specific student needs.
  • Prepare students for MCAS assessments.
  • Maintain data and documentation as appropriate.
  • Participate in school-wide professional development and seek feedback for improvement.
  • Assure equal educational opportunity to all individuals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Foreign Language (5-12).
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement or Grade-level appropriate ESL License.
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in urban, high-poverty, and/or turnaround schools.
  • Major/minor in specific teaching content area.
  • Additional certification in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities and/or English Language Learners (ESL).
  • Demonstrated experience in English Language Development (ELD) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies.
  • Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish/English).
