Uncommon Schools is a nonprofit network of high-performing, public charter schools dedicated to providing an outstanding K-12 education in historically under-resourced communities. Our mission is to ensure that all students, regardless of their background, have access to a high-quality education that prepares them for success in college and beyond. We are proud to have built schools that reflect our student population, with over 60% of our teachers and staff identifying as people of color. Currently, we manage 53 schools serving more than 20,000 students across five cities: Boston, Camden, New York City, Newark, and Rochester. Our graduates persist in and graduate from college at five times the national average, a testament to the strong academic, co-curricular, and social-emotional learning we provide. At Roxbury Prep, which consists of four schools serving grades 5 through 12, we believe in fostering strong, authentic relationships between teachers and students. Our instructional model is designed to engage students and enable them to flourish both academically and personally. With an impressive 98% college acceptance rate, Roxbury Prep students collectively earned $1.3 million in scholarships last year. As a Spanish teacher at Uncommon High School, you will work collaboratively with grade-level and content teams to develop students into global citizens. You will become an expert in your course content and inspire high school students to communicate effectively in Spanish, using a variety of instructional strategies to create a safe and engaging learning environment. Your role will involve building students' bilingual skills and enhancing their understanding of the Spanish language through a curriculum that prepares them for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate-level coursework. You will help students gain confidence in navigating authentic print and audio sources, teach them to build and enhance their foreign language skills, and cultivate their cultural awareness. Additionally, you will work with the Spanish department to set academic and engagement goals for students, analyze student work samples and assessments, and implement differentiated instruction strategies to meet the needs of all learners. Building positive relationships with students and partnering with their families will be essential to ensure that they feel seen, loved, and heard in our school community.
