Uncommon High School Spanish teachers play a crucial role in developing students into global citizens through the mastery of the Spanish language. This position involves working collaboratively within grade-level and content teams to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. Teachers are expected to become experts in their course content, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies to motivate and inspire high school students. The core of the teaching approach is communication in Spanish, fostering a safe space for students to express themselves in a new language. By the end of high school, students are prepared for academic autonomy and college preparatory work, equipped with the skills necessary to navigate both print and audio authentic sources. In this role, teachers will focus on building students' bilingual skills and enhancing their understanding of the Spanish language through a curriculum designed to prepare them for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate-level coursework. This includes teaching students how to read, write, speak, and listen in Spanish, while also cultivating their cultural awareness. Teachers will share their passion for the Spanish language to foster a community of students who are confident in their ability to converse in Spanish. Collaboration with the Spanish department is essential to develop academic and engagement goals for students. Data analysis is another key responsibility, as teachers will meet weekly with their principal and/or instructional coach to analyze trends in student work samples and assessments. This data-driven approach will help in implementing strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in the classroom. Building a positive school culture is paramount, and teachers will work to establish strong relationships with students, ensuring they feel seen, loved, and heard. Engaging with students' families is also important to provide appropriate resources that support their child's learning needs. Participation in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions is expected, along with involvement in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community and encourage student achievement.
