About the position

The High School Teacher at Alta Vista Innovation High School is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing personalized instructional programs that support student growth and development. The role emphasizes collaboration with instructional staff and school personnel to guide students in fulfilling their academic potential and completing diploma requirements. The teacher will engage with a diverse student body, fostering an effective learning environment and encouraging critical thinking and independent learning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review and regularly update personalized academic plans based on students' transcripts and assessment data.
  • Create and maintain an effective learning environment by modeling positive behavior and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Meet with students at scheduled appointment dates and times to conduct effective student appointments.
  • Establish and communicate learning objectives and content standards to be assessed.
  • Plan, prepare for, and deliver instructional activities to facilitate learning experiences.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources to support independent learning.
  • Identify and implement instructional strategies to meet students' varying needs.
  • Engage students in academic conversations that elicit critical thinking and creativity.
  • Regularly check for understanding and provide clarifying information.
  • Grade course homework, projects, and tests, providing meaningful feedback to enhance learning.
  • Instruct and monitor student progress in the use of online learning materials and technology.
  • Provide appropriate accommodations for English Learners and students with special needs.
  • Model and guide students to develop independent learning skills.
  • Administer diagnostic assessments according to guidelines.
  • Communicate necessary information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress.
  • Manage student behavior in the Resource Center by enforcing rules and disciplinary systems.
  • Prepare for and facilitate positive parent conferences.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practices through professional learning communities.
  • Participate in Professional Development opportunities as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid California Single Subject or Multiple Subject credential in area of specialization or intern eligible.
  • Bachelor's degree with major or minor in designated subject, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
  • English Learner Authorization.
  • Successful passing of the California Basic Skills Exam.
  • Enrollment in a State approved teacher preparation program and student teaching experience.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Email.
