About the position

The position involves teaching vocational technical education, focusing on safety, technical standards, embedded academics, employability, management, entrepreneurship, and technology. The goal is to help students develop into mature, responsible, and productive citizens by providing them with the necessary subject matter and skills. The instructor is responsible for planning and delivering lessons, assessing student progress, and maintaining a conducive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct assigned classes at designated locations and times.
  • Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Guide the learning process toward achieving established district curriculum goals.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media based on student needs and physical limitations.
  • Implement the district's educational philosophy, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
  • Regularly assess student accomplishments and provide progress reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Diagnose learning challenges and seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follow the code of conduct for the classroom and enforce rules of behavior fairly.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and provide written evaluations as required.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth to meet district and personal expectations.
  • Participate in the teacher evaluation process and contribute to mutual agreements regarding evaluations.
  • Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and decision-making among staff.
  • Participate in traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon with the building administrator.
  • Contribute to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of recent full-time employment experience directly related to trade shop.
  • State trade/union license.
  • Passing score of at least 70% on written and performance tests for licensure.
  • Passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy (VTLST) and Communication and Literacy Skills Test.
  • Completion of Cosmetology (9-14) license requirements from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $51,038.00 - $82,792.00 based on collective bargaining unit salary schedule.
