About the position

The Highway Laborer/Driver is responsible for performing maintenance and repair activities on roads and other Town properties. This role involves operating and maintaining light and heavy-duty trucks for various tasks, including snow plowing, hauling materials, and using tools for general maintenance duties. The position requires collaboration with the Public Works team and may involve work in related departments as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Perform road maintenance and repair activities.
• Operate and maintain light and heavy-duty trucks for plowing snow, hauling materials, and other tasks.
• Utilize hand tools and equipment for maintenance and installation of roads and drainage systems.
• Operate snow removal equipment including snowplows and snow blowers.
• Maintain tree service equipment and perform tree removal tasks.
• Assist in maintaining athletic fields and landscaping equipment.
• Perform basic maintenance on equipment and assist mechanics with repairs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid CDL Class B license required; CDL Class A preferred.
• Basic computer skills including web navigation and email communication.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and safety precautions related to equipment operation.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Skilled in operating equipment over difficult terrain.
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
• Experience in snow removal preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in operating a loader, backhoe, mini excavator, and skid steer.
• Previous experience in landscaping and field maintenance.
