About the position
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking temporary Winter Salaried Highway Maintainers for the 2024/2025 Snow and Ice Season. This role involves performing various tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of roads, bridges, and other related structures during winter conditions. The position requires operating heavy vehicles and performing labor-intensive tasks outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
- Assists in snow and ice control during winter conditions.
- Performs maintenance of roadside and right-of-way.
- Maintains roads and performs routine housekeeping duties at headquarters grounds.
- Completes other assigned duties as required.
Requirements
- Completion of four years of high school or equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Possession of a Class B CDL with appropriate endorsements for seasonal employees; must obtain a Class A CDL by the third year.
- One year of driving experience immediately preceding appointment without incidents that could lead to license suspension.
