About the position

The Highway Maintainer position at the Illinois Department of Transportation involves performing various tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of roads, bridges, and other related structures. Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A licensed vehicles.
• Performs labor relating to maintenance of roadways.
• Assists in snow and ice control during adverse weather conditions.
• Maintains roadside and right-of-way areas.
• Removes and disposes of trash, dead animals, and debris along highways.
• Maintains on-the-job records.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possession of a Class 'A' CDL with appropriate endorsements (X or N) and no airbrake restrictions.
• One year of driving experience immediately preceding appointment free of incidents that could result in license suspension or revocation.
