About the position

The Highway Maintenance Worker 2 position at WSDOT is a non-permanent role focused on maintaining and repairing highways and highway structures in the Olympic Region. This journey-level position involves operating various highway equipment, performing skilled maintenance tasks, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of the highway system. The role supports the agency's strategic goals related to workforce development, diversity, equity, inclusion, and resilience.

Responsibilities

• Operate Class A, B, and C highway equipment for highway maintenance.
• Perform snow and ice control, including application of anti-icing compounds.
• Conduct pavement maintenance and repair using concrete, asphalt, and synthetic materials.
• Perform drainage maintenance, erosion and slide repair, and sign maintenance.
• Complete danger tree removal and vegetation management, including pesticide application.
• Track, document, and report daily work activities and inventory.
• Design and set up traffic control for operations, including road or bridge closures.

Requirements

• Two years of highway maintenance, logging, farming, excavation, or heavy equipment experience, or one year as a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 or equivalent.
• Possession of an unrestricted Class A CDL with N endorsement to operate vehicles in Washington State.
• Ability to report to the duty station within 60 minutes of an after-hours call.
• Ability to transport and manipulate equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to work at heights above 25 feet and traverse rough terrain.
