About the position

The Highway Project Engineer at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is responsible for engineering design and project management within the Highways Team. This role involves working on complex transportation projects in the Mid-Atlantic region, providing technical guidance to junior engineers, and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and standards. The position offers opportunities for career advancement in a dynamic, employee-owned consulting firm.

Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee plans, estimates, and specifications for compliance with PennDOT, The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and the city of Philadelphia's guidelines and standards.
  • Develop construction documents including all aspects of highway and site design such as geometrics, details, ADA criteria, roadway profiles, utility design and coordination, pavement markings, and maintenance and protection of traffic, signage.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
  • Perform design computations.
  • Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines.
  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
  • Prepare proposals as required.
  • Attend meetings with clients.
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program.
  • 5-10 years' experience in specialized discipline.
  • Proficient in Bentley MicroStation and InRoads.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Proficient with Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level.
