About the position

The HIM Coordinator-Operations at Southcoast Health is responsible for supporting the Health Information Management Department by managing patient information requests, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining the integrity of medical records. This role involves auditing data, assisting physicians with coding queries, and preparing discharged records, all while adhering to HIPAA and state laws.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephone requests for patient information.
• Review patient records to determine if content is protected and if written patient authorization is required for approved release.
• Prepare and scan all discharged records daily.
• Perform audits and complete corrections of inaccurate data in the data system.
• Determine physician record completion status and notify them regarding chart completion.
• Serve as a resource to physicians by answering questions related to coding queries, ICD9/10, and CPT coding.
• Ensure compliance with applicable hospital policies including HIPAA and General Laws of Massachusetts regarding the release and use of confidential patient information.

Requirements

• An Associates Degree in a related field or equivalent knowledge and experience is preferred.
• Over 3 years of related work experience and/or completion of a RHIT/RHIA program.
• Knowledge of medical record content and medical record terminology is required.
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and COVID-19 or be exempt from the requirement.
