About the position

The Computer Programs Student Success Coach at Pierce College is responsible for advising students in the Computer Network Engineering and Computer Science Programs. This role focuses on advancing equity-centered educational opportunities for historically marginalized populations, ensuring students have clear pathways to success, and fostering a supportive environment that promotes student engagement and empowerment.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with students to develop rapport and trustful relationships built on mutual respect and appreciation.
  • Help students identify a career pathway and establish concrete academic and career goals.
  • Provide expertise in Pierce College policy, procedures, processes, and assigned career pathways.
  • Use planning and evaluation tools to review students' academic records and provide a plan for graduation, transfer, and career entry.
  • Collaborate with Student Life and other departments to connect students to culturally sustaining engagement opportunities.
  • Deploy holistic resources when opportunities arise to support students.
  • Guide students through funding options and develop a funding plan in collaboration with funding source teams.
  • Assist students in requesting Academic Credit for Prior Learning Assessments and connect them with appropriate faculty.
  • Monitor academic progress of caseload by analyzing progress reports and satisfactory progress toward degree.
  • Identify needs and opportunities for resource referrals and partner with students to access key college resources.
  • Support students in making decisions that advance their learning along their career pathway.
  • Assist in the development and updating of advising and coaching materials for marginalized and minoritized students.
  • Participate in career and college fairs to promote pathway programs and recruit prospective students.
  • Attend District Advising and Academic Division Meetings and participate in governance and committee work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study or equivalent years of experience in computer information systems, computer network engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • One year of experience in an educational environment providing direct student service or managing a client caseload.
  • Experience providing culturally responsive services to students with intersecting identities and multicultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist individuals in problem identification and solution.
  • Experience working with electronic information management systems/database software.
  • Knowledge of privacy laws and confidentiality requirements.
  • Experience in providing effective referrals for students or clients.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in academic advising, financial aid, TRIO, or multicultural services.
  • Familiarity with Guided Pathways framework.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $62,892.00 to $74,724.00 annually.
  • Eligible for up to two days of telework per week.
