About the position

The Hiring Process Specialist at the Illinois Department of Corrections plays a crucial role in managing and improving the hiring process within the agency. This position involves serving as a liaison between management and field staff, ensuring timely and accurate documentation for filling vacancies. The specialist will also perform complex specialized duties, assist in special projects, and seek process improvements related to hiring. The ideal candidate should possess strong human resources knowledge and experience, particularly in interview and selection processes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in a professional capacity performing complex specialized duties to assist the agency with hiring goals and objectives.
  • Act as a liaison for management and field staff regarding filling vacancies, ensuring timely and accurate follow-up documentation.
  • Perform special projects for the Deputy Director of HR and the Interview & Selection Manager.
  • Independently seek out process improvements related to the hiring process.
  • Serve as a statewide certified interviewer.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of four (4) years of college education.
  • Two (2) years of professional human resources experience.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in an interview & selection field.
  • Two (2) years of experience interpreting and applying the Illinois Personnel Code, Personnel Rules, Position Classification Plan, Pay Plan, and Collective Bargaining Contracts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Four (4) years of professional experience in the employment hiring process, including interviewing and reviewing applications.
  • Two (2) years or more of experience with Human Capital Management systems or similar online hiring systems.
  • Two (2) years or more of experience using databases and running reports.
  • One (1) year of experience utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and WebEx or similar software.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Willingness to be part of a team to maintain a cohesive work environment.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume work environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with a variety of staff.
  • Ability to provide input into process improvements.
