About the position

The Senior Network Security Engineer will support a US government agency in the National Capital Region, focusing on various Network Security Tools. This role involves engineering, administration, maintenance, and modernization of security tools, reporting directly to the Security Operations Manager. The successful candidate will provide hands-on technical support for a range of security technologies and will be responsible for troubleshooting, documentation, and process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Support Network Security Tool engineering, administration, maintenance, and modernization efforts.
  • Provide technical hands-on support for various Security Tool engineering and administration of SASE, EDR, DLP, Web Proxy, Email Security, IDPS, Firewall, and SIEM Technologies.
  • Create deployment/update/upgrade plans and perform work as outlined.
  • Perform routine health checks, maintenance tasks, updates, upgrades, and implement new capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot Network Security Tools issues, escalate issues, and work with tool vendors to resolve them.
  • Support deployment of new Network Security Tools when needed.
  • Develop, execute, and improve work instructions and other technical documentation related to Network Security Tool updates, upgrades, and health checks.
  • Analyze performance issues of Security Tools using a variety of tools.
  • Effectively document work in various formats including work instructions, change management requests, and incident tickets.
  • Improve efficiency through process improvement and automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 10 years of related information security experience.
  • 3 or more years of experience providing hands-on technical support for SASE, EDR, DLP, Web Proxy, Email Security, IDPS, Firewall, and SIEM Technologies.
  • 2 years of experience in administering Operating systems (Windows and Linux).
  • 2 or more years of experience in administering SIEM.
  • 2 years of experience in scripting and automation.
  • 2 years of experience developing, executing, and improving work instructions and other technical documentation related to Security Tool Administration.
  • Industry standard cybersecurity certification (e.g. Security+).

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on technical knowledge of SIEM, Networking, Linux administration, Windows administration, Scripting, and automation.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in using Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
