About the position

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in the school setting plays a crucial role in evaluating and treating students with communication disorders. This position involves performing comprehensive assessments of students' communication skills, including articulation, fluency, voice, and both expressive and receptive language abilities. The SLP is responsible for identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility, and developing tailored recommendations for treatment based on each student's unique needs and the physician's orders. In addition to assessments, the SLP collaborates with various stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and other professionals, to communicate findings, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with established guidelines. This collaboration extends to coordinating meetings and processes for eligible students, such as testing, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and parent conferences. The SLP presents evaluation results, develops treatment plans, and provides training to parents, students, and staff to enhance understanding and support for communication disorders. The SLP also develops treatment plans and educational materials aimed at minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders. This includes instructing students in the use of appropriate communication technologies, such as hearing aids and augmentative communication devices. Maintaining accurate records is essential, as the SLP is responsible for documenting progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, and other required documentation. Participation in meetings, workshops, and seminars is also a key responsibility, as is seeking professional development opportunities to stay current in the field. The SLP provides direct speech and language therapy to students, ensuring that their communication needs are met effectively. Responsibilities

  • Develops treatment plans, interventions, and educational materials to minimize the impact of communication disorders.
  • Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies such as hearing aids and augmentative devices.
  • Maintains files and records including progress reports, activity logs, and treatment plans.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for professional development and team collaboration.
  • Provides speech and language therapy to students to support their communication needs.
  • Seeks appropriate in-service and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or necessary.

Requirements

  • Active Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Licensure in the state of assignment required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred and may be required by state/contract.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate as per contract or state regulation.
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and clients via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
