About the position

The position involves performing clerical and technical support functions in the anatomic pathology laboratory, including specimen receipt, logging, and various technical duties. The role requires assisting in body fluid procedures, slide filing, and maintenance activities, while ensuring compliance with safety procedures and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical and technical support functions for the anatomic pathology laboratory.
• Receive and log specimens accurately, ensuring all required information is present.
• File surgical slides accurately and retrieve them as required by the Pathologist.
• Perform body fluid procedures using the Cytospin centrifuge.
• Assist the Histotechnician with maintenance and housekeeping activities.
• Prepare, file, and maintain card files for surgical and cytology specimens.
• Pre-label cassettes for the Pathologist for surgical grossing.
• Process send-off of various specimens for referral testing.
• Perform various housekeeping activities such as cleaning Cytospin parts and counters.
• Order supplies for the Anatomic Pathology lab sections weekly and as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Six months to one year of medical experience, particularly in Histology or the laboratory is preferred.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with phlebotomy is a plus.
• Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures.
