Requirements

• Associate degree required for Histology Technician (HT) or Bachelor's degree for Histotechnologist (HTL).
• Histology Technician (HT) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required by start date.
• Histotechnologist (HTL) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required by start date.
• Coursework including a minimum of 12 credit hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate of a NAACLS accredited program preferred.
• Graduates of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program will receive preference.

Responsibilities

• Prepare microscope slides for pathologist review using various techniques and equipment.
• Accession specimens and process them for analysis.
• Perform microtomy techniques including paraffin, frozen, and plastic methods.
• Conduct routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and in situ hybridization.
• Assist in training students and new employees.
• Participate in on-call rotations, including weekends as needed.
