About the position

Under general supervision of the Dean of Workforce Education and Training, this position works collaboratively to provide Historic Preservation and Restoration Construction instruction for community college students. The instructor will design and implement instructional activities in historic preservation and restoration in both classroom and workshop settings, utilizing effective instructional delivery techniques that cater to the needs of students and project partners, which may include scheduling classes during days, evenings, and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement instructional activities in historic preservation and restoration in classroom and workshop settings.
  • Provide classroom instruction in construction safety, tool use and safety, building assessment and documentation, Secretary of the Interior's Standards, print reading, construction math, historic and modern materials and methods.
  • Instruct hands-on workshops in at least three areas such as woodworking, construction techniques, plastering, stained glass, masonry, concrete, moisture and thermal protection, and materials analysis.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with program partners, including non-profits, governmental, community organizations, and businesses.
  • Provide curricular guidance for historic preservation and restoration.
  • Work with faculty colleagues to develop, implement, evaluate and periodically review and revise the organizing framework, learning outcomes, and curriculum of the college.
  • Evaluate student achievement of identified learning outcomes and assign grades according to college policies and standards.
  • Provide for student evaluations of teaching and learning effectiveness.
  • Market program in local and regional area at events, fairs, and in high schools.
  • Organize weekend workshops with program partners, including identifying projects, ordering materials, and determining logistics.
  • Provide academic advising to students.
  • Participate in determining academic policies and procedures of the institution and other appropriate faculty activities of the College.
  • Maintain office hours and the woodworking shop utilized by faculty, students, and maintenance staff.
  • Maintain professional competence and job qualifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's Degree in Historic Preservation, Construction/Carpentry, or closely related field and a background of at least five (5) years of verifiable work experience in the Historic Preservation field; OR Seven (7) years of professional work experience related to this field.
  • Teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
