About the position

The Historic Preservation Specialist position at FEMA involves conducting project reviews and assessing buildings for eligibility for the National or State Register of Historic Places. The role requires familiarity with federal and state historic preservation laws, particularly the National Historic Preservation Act. This position is crucial for ensuring compliance with historic preservation regulations during disaster response and recovery efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Receive proposed federal actions and determine NHPA review actions required.
  • Review FEMA or Applicant actions for compliance with NHPA Section 106 during disaster response and recovery.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to support multiple efforts while adhering to schedules and priorities.
  • Conduct analysis to document impacts to cultural and historic resources.
  • Draft consultations, write reports, document findings and determinations, and prepare Records of Environmental Consideration (RECs).

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the IC-11 level in the Federal government.
  • Experience completing National Historic Preservation Act and Section 106/110 compliance reviews.
  • Ability to formulate reports and determinations related to Historic Preservation compliance reviews.
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to resolve environmental or historic preservation issues.
