About the position

The Associate Histology Technician plays a crucial role in the laboratory by preparing slides of body tissues for analysis and diagnostic purposes. This position involves a variety of technical skills including accessioning, gross dissection assistance, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and performing various staining techniques. The technician is expected to maintain high standards of quality and safety while ensuring efficient turnaround times for specimen processing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare slides of body tissues for pathologist analysis.
  • Accession and assist with gross dissection of specimens.
  • Process tissue samples and perform embedding and microtomy.
  • Conduct routine, special, and immunohistochemical staining.
  • Perform cover slipping and frozen sectioning as needed.
  • Utilize the Anatomic Pathology Lab Information System (LIS) for specimen logging.
  • Organize work priorities to ensure exceptional service and turnaround time.
  • Communicate effectively with pathologists and coworkers regarding specimen handling.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory environment.
  • Participate in departmental support activities and assist coworkers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic reading, writing, and oral communication skills in English.
  • Basic computer knowledge including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate professionally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a Pathology Technician (preferred but not required).
