About the position

The Histotechnologist position at NeoGenomics Laboratories involves performing a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures under general supervision. The role is critical in ensuring the highest quality of histological preparations for microscopic evaluation, contributing to improved patient care and supporting the company's mission to become a leading cancer reference laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
  • Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
  • Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Performs microtomy according to established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Embeds processed tissue in paraffin wax.
  • Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
  • Performs all special stain procedures according to established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required.
  • Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests.

Requirements

  • 1+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred for Level I.
  • 4+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred for Level II.
  • Bachelor of Science in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent education of 60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in biological and chemical science courses.
  • Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification required.
  • Current state technician or technologist license in Florida.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory techniques.
  • Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standards.
  • Ability to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the company's Safety Data Sheet Database.
  • Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
