About the position

The HIV/HCV Bridge Counselor position is a critical role within the Communicable Disease Branch of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. This position focuses on interviewing individuals living with various infectious diseases, including COVID-19, STIs, HIV, and viral hepatitis. The counselor will utilize person finding software and medical records to gather information, provide education and consultation to community partners, and analyze data to inform programmatic initiatives aimed at improving linkage to care efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews and in-depth medical record abstractions of individuals with infectious diseases.
  • Utilize person finding software and databases to locate information.
  • Provide education, consultation, and technical assistance to community partners.
  • Assess new programmatic initiatives through data collection and analysis.
  • Document and analyze outcome trends to inform programmatic processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience as a Public Health Disease Intervention Specialist, including one year in the same program area.
  • Ability to establish and maintain consulting relationships with healthcare and human services professionals.
  • Thorough knowledge of Viral Hepatitis, HIV, STIs, COVID-19, and other infectious diseases.
  • Knowledge of disease investigation principles and skills.
  • Skilled in client interviewing, disease case management, and client-centered counseling.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with diverse populations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply public health laws and regulations.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Windows and data entry.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture (drawing blood).
  • Capability to work in culturally diverse and sensitive communities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of Hepatitis and other infectious diseases.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
