About the position

The HMA Sales Representative at W-L Construction and Paving, a CRH Company, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of sales and marketing for the organization. This role requires a proactive approach to building and maintaining customer relationships, ensuring high levels of customer service, and accurately pricing products based on cost factors. The representative will be expected to stay informed about current market conditions and competitor activities, which is crucial for developing effective sales strategies. Additionally, the role involves preparing various paperwork, including estimate sheets, contracts, and billing reports, while also assisting in the collection of revenues from customers in arrears. In terms of operations, the HMA Sales Representative will contribute to the preparation and timely submission of weekly schedules and participate in scheduling meetings. This includes developing and submitting bids for construction projects that require Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and working closely with Quality Control to monitor product specifications. The representative must be flexible with job scheduling to ensure the proper utilization of plants and trucks, coordinating with Area Managers and Plant Operators to maximize efficiency. Daily coordination with the area dispatcher is also essential to ensure the optimal use of trucks, equipment, and personnel. The position requires a commitment to safety and adherence to all relevant regulations set forth by agencies such as the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The representative must display professionalism and courtesy towards co-workers and the public, and be willing to travel and work nights or weekends as necessary. Regular attendance is a critical function of this role, and the representative must be able to work independently while managing multiple priorities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive sales, marketing, and promotion of W-L Construction & Paving.
  • Follow up on all sales/quotes and collection procedures when necessary.
  • Accurate pricing of products based on given cost factors.
  • Keeping fully abreast of the current marketing condition and the activities of competitors.
  • Developing and strengthening relations with all customers.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to all clients.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of various paperwork, including estimate sheets, contracts, credit approval, billing reports, etc.
  • Assist with the collection of revenues from HMA customers in arrears.
  • Ability to derive quantities from plans.
  • Conduct customer surveys and periodic visits to job sites.
  • Contribute to preparation and timely submission of weekly schedules and attend scheduling meetings.
  • Develop and submit bids for construction projects requiring HMA as required.
  • Work closely with Quality Control in monitoring specifications of products/specifying bid items as needed.
  • Ability to be flexible with W-L Construction & Paving, Inc, and customer job scheduling for proper utilization of plants and trucks.
  • Coordination with Area Managers and Plant Operators to maximize the utilization of our HMA plants.
  • Daily coordination with area dispatcher to ensure maximum utilization of trucks, equipment, and people on an area scale.
  • Assist with other subsidiary operations as needed.
  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, MSHA, or any other regulatory agency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, plus two to five years relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and other employees.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and dependable transportation to and from the job site.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities.
  • Proficient computer skills with web-based applications, ViewPoint and MS Office products.
