About the position

The Hockey Operations Coordinator plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the Division I ice hockey teams at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of team supplies and equipment, ensuring that all athletes are safely equipped for participation. The coordinator will complete periodic inventories of team equipment to facilitate fiscally responsible decision-making and provide superior customer service to student-athletes and coaches. Daily responsibilities include managing skate sharpening and protective equipment repair, as well as providing direct equipment oversight during practices and competitions. In addition to equipment management, the Hockey Operations Coordinator will collaborate with the Assistant Director for Athletics & Ice Hockey operations to arrange logistical team travel for away contests. This includes managing team travel needs such as meals, hotel arrangements, and bus itineraries. The coordinator will also act as a liaison with visiting teams' equipment staff to ensure a quality experience when hosting opponents. The role requires a commitment to personal and professional development, including maintaining a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and active memberships in professional organizations that enhance understanding of new equipment trends and technology. Other duties may be assigned by hockey staff and administration as needed, making this a dynamic and engaging position within the athletics department.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of team supplies and equipment.
  • Complete periodic inventories for all team equipment to ensure fiscally responsible decision making.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ice Hockey Experience (Playing, Coaching, or Managing).
  • Skate Sharpening skills.
  • General hockey equipment repair skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, problem solve, react under pressure, work with student-athletes and motivate.
  • Ability to foster relations with internal staff and student-athletes.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural groups.
  • Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Planning, management and budgeting skills relative to equipment and travel.
  • Computer proficiency using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the complexities of the role and its functions.
