About the position

As a Hoist Operator at RR Donnelley, you will play a crucial role in the manufacturing and shipping processes by operating equipment to move finished products for storage or shipment. Your responsibilities will include supplying the Manufacturing Department with necessary materials, staging products for movement or shipping, and maintaining an organized inventory of supplies. You will also be responsible for transporting and processing manufacturing paper by-products, ensuring that all tasks are performed in compliance with safety policies and procedures. This position requires routine daily inspections of the hoist equipment and reporting any maintenance needs. Additionally, you may be tasked with battery service duties, including inspecting, recharging, and replacing batteries, as well as lubricating the moving parts of the truck. You will be expected to adhere to safety protocols, including proper handling of hazardous waste and following lock out-tag out rules. This role may also involve participating in special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment to move finished product for shipping or storage.
  • Supplies Manufacturing Department with materials as needed.
  • Stages product to be moved or shipped.
  • Racks unused supplies and maintains an inventory of type, amount and location of items.
  • Transports and processes manufacturing paper by-products.
  • Empties trash hoppers and performs other housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Performs routine daily inspections on hoist and assures maintenance needs are reported.
  • May include battery service duties such as inspecting, recharging and replacing batteries of electrical leads and battery poles and lubricating truck's moving parts.
  • Adheres to and promotes all safety policies and procedures including, but not limited to the proper handling of hazardous waste, lock out-tag out rules and hearing and eye protection policies.

Requirements

  • Must know how high, wide, and long the fork lift truck and its load are, and how much the fork lift truck can lift.
  • Ability to identify how high and wide a doorway and an aisle must be to drive the fork lift truck and its load.
  • Knowledge of the layout of the storage area to be able to find and place items without need for detailed instructions.
  • Skilled in moving fork lift trucks about in places where there is very little room to stack or remove loads.
  • Greater knowledge and skill than Hoist Operator 1 in the handling of controls for driving fork lift and/or clamp trucks.
  • Must be skilled in handling controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving fork lift trucks through narrow aisles in building, up and down ramps, and in and out of railroad cars, trucks, etc.
  • Must be able to recognize whether the fork lift truck is able to lift the load and whether the load is properly balanced.
