The position of Work Unit Test Developer/Innovator involves the development, innovation, evaluation, and implementation of novel tests, methodologies, technologies, or products for the laboratory. This role operates under the intellectual and scientific guidance of laboratory directors and is responsible for improving existing methods or implementing new technologies that have proven validity within the work unit. The individual will organize new method validation data, prepare data for publication and peer review, and participate in formal presentations. It is important to note that individuals hired for this position are required to complete two years in the role before being eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, innovate, evaluate, and implement novel tests, methodologies, technologies, or products for the laboratory.
  • Organize new method validation data and prepare it for publication and peer review.
  • Participate in formal presentations regarding new methods and technologies.
  • Improve existing methods or implement novel technology of proven validity within the work unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, or biological science from an accredited institution.
  • Master's degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology preferred.
  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in chemistry or a biological science preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical and scientific competency with development and/or validation of lab techniques or procedures.
  • Experience with data collection, organization, analysis, and delivery of information.
  • ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Tissue Culture, Protein purification, Flow Cytometry Software, Western Blot, ELISA, and Molecular techniques.
