About the position

The Per Diem Pharmacist at Optum plays a crucial role in fulfilling Home Delivery prescription orders, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. This position involves dispensing medications, processing pharmacy orders, and overseeing pharmacy technicians and clerks. The pharmacist will work in a highly automated facility and is responsible for maintaining quality assurance and improving departmental guidelines. This role also provides coverage for full-time pharmacists during their absence, contributing to the overall health outcomes of the community.

Responsibilities

• Review requests for prescription prior authorizations
• Oversee the activities of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy clerks, and customer service advocates
• Perform all duties and functions in compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations
• Support department quality assurance and improvement guidelines
• Process, pack, and ship outgoing pharmacy orders
• Monitor and verify all prescription orders upon dosing
• Calibrate dosing pumps
• Perform drug/supply ordering and inventory/warehouse duties

Requirements

• BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D degree
• Current and unrestricted pharmacist licensure in the state of Texas
• Ability to work various shifts (as needed)

Nice-to-haves

• 1+ years of experience in a retail pharmacy setting
• Ability to lift 30 - 50 lbs
