About the position
The Home Health Aide (HHA) position at NHC HomeCare Laurens involves providing personal care to patients in their homes under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role is essential in ensuring patients receive the necessary support for daily activities, promoting their comfort and well-being in a home environment.
Responsibilities
- Render personal care to patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Assist with bathing, oral hygiene, skin care, hair care, and dressing.
- Provide assistance with elimination, including the use of bedside commodes and bedpans.
- Help with repositioning, transfers, and ambulation using equipment like lifts and wheelchairs.
- Perform routine care of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Reinforce dressings as needed, without performing full dressing changes.
- Assist with self-administered medications that do not require licensed nurse skills.
- Support prescribed exercises after receiving adequate instruction from professional personnel.
- Maintain a hygienic environment by preparing meals, cleaning utensils, and light cleaning of the patient's area.
- Launder bed linens and clothing when the patient is unable to do so.
- Participate in ongoing patient care coordination with all disciplines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Registered Nurse.
Requirements
- Must have an active SC CNA certification with home health aide training hours.
- Completion of the ninth grade in school.
- Documentation of successful completion of a training program consisting of at least 75 total hours, including at least 16 hours of classroom instruction and at least 16 hours of supervised practical training.
- Successful completion of the written and on-site HomeCare Aide Competency Evaluation prior to performing patient care independently.
