About the position

The Home Loan Originator is responsible for originating various types of home loans, including Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, FHA, USDA, VA, Home Equity Loans, and HELOCs. This role requires strong judgment in the loan-making process, ensuring accurate recording and timely service. The position involves developing and maintaining a network of business relationships to generate referrals, overseeing the loan process from origination to closing, and ensuring exceptional customer experience throughout.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with applicants to obtain information for loan applications and answer questions about the process.
  • Explain different types of loan products and services available, as well as their terms.
  • Obtain and compile documentation to support application information.
  • Analyze and compile information and documentation to accurately process loans in accordance with Bank policies and real estate lending rules.
  • Ensure assigned Home Loan Matrix dates for 30-day turn-time are met on all loan files.
  • Maintain availability to realtors and borrowers outside of standard banking hours.
  • Network with internal departments, employees, realtors, builders, and other referral sources to generate leads.
  • Cross-sell other bank products, including FM Investments.
  • Participate in Sales program including practicing drills and role-plays; utilize sales skills to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Identify competitive opportunities in local markets regarding rates and products.
  • Handle customer complaints and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Achieve production and other goals as established by F&M.
  • Utilize F&M training materials and resources to provide accurate loan program/policy information.
  • Comply with bank policy and regulatory compliance tests.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in banking or finance or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong public relations skills.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
