About the position

The Home School Assistant position within the Early Childhood Department at the Rochester City School District (RCSD) is designed to support students and families by addressing school-related issues and promoting effective student participation in the classroom. The role involves collaboration with parents, students, and community agencies to enhance educational outcomes and ensure equitable access to quality education. The assistant will work under the supervision of a School Principal and will not have supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students and parents on school-related problems.
• Maintain records of activities with students and parents.
• Participate in student conferences on school-related problems with teachers and student support staff.
• Assist in data collection.
• Make school, home, and agency visits.
• Participate in parent and student workshops and conferences.
• Develop basic written reports regarding student progress.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
• Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree or sixty (60) college semester credit hours; OR satisfactory completion of thirty (30) college semester credit hours plus one (1) year full-time or part-time equivalent paid experience with youth; OR two (2) years full-time or part-time equivalent experience as described; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
• Ability to maintain simple records and prepare basic reports.
• Ability to motivate and lead students.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Nice-to-haves

• Working knowledge of the District's and community agencies' policies and programs as they relate to troubled youth.
• Good judgment, tact, courtesy, and initiative.

Benefits

• Salary range of $21.99/hr - $25.49/hr for 40 hours per week.
