About the position

The Claim Specialist position at AAA The Auto Club Group involves handling complex insurance claims with minimal supervision. The role requires strong negotiation skills and the ability to conduct thorough investigations to determine claim validity and financial value. The position allows for remote work but may require travel to field locations for inspections and meetings. The Claim Specialist will work closely with policyholders, contractors, and other departments to ensure claims are processed efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Review assigned claims and contact the insured and other affected parties.
  • Set expectations for the remainder of the claim process and initiate documentation in the claims handling system.
  • Complete complex coverage analysis and ensure all possible policyholder benefits are identified.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of damages and determine the applicability of state law and other factors related to the claim.
  • Evaluate the financial value of the loss and approve payments for the appropriate parties accordingly.
  • Refer claims to other company units when necessary, such as Underwriting or Claims Special Investigation Unit.
  • Document and code the claim file and complete all claim closure activities in the assigned claims management system.
  • Utilize strong negotiating skills to settle claims effectively.
  • Prepare damage estimates using claims software when handling claims in the field.
  • Monitor contractor repair status and assist Claim Manager with file reviews and training as needed.

Requirements

  • Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience.
  • Must be eligible to acquire a State Adjuster's license within 90 days of hire and maintain as specified for appropriate states.
  • Must have a valid State Driver's License.
  • Three years of experience or equivalent training in negotiation of claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, and preparing estimates.
  • Advanced knowledge of Essential Insurance Act (Michigan) and Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims subrogation procedures.
  • Ability to handle claims to the line Claim Handling Standards and follow ACG Claim policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance or a related field.
  • Completion of the Insurance Institute of America's General Insurance Program or equivalent CPCU coursework or designation.
  • I-Car ProLevel training and CCC training.
