About the position

Project for Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering low-income people to become self-reliant through integrated services. PPL is looking for a talented, people-person to join our Financial Coaching and Homeownership Team. This team is dedicated to providing services and resources that work to close the racial wealth gap. This position will perform high-quality loan processing (origination) of second mortgages in the form of down payment assistance for homebuyers with an emphasis on underserved markets. Their duties include but are not limited to researching a client's credit, income, and assets, and reviewing applications based on policy guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Must be willing to obtain or maintain certifications for homebuyer counseling, homebuyer education, financial coaching, and foreclosure prevention.
  • Possess and/or must obtain NMLS License within your first 90 days of employment.
  • Collect, review, and analyze applicants' relevant credit, employment, complex income structures, debt-to-income ratios, collateral, and capacity to repay mortgage and financial history and documentation.
  • Obtain, organize, verify, and analyze all necessary information and documents for the processing of down payment assistance.
  • Approve or deny down payment assistance based on pre-determined guidelines and underwriting criteria.
  • Communicate and monitor buyer loan covenants.
  • Complete required continuing education on an annual basis.
  • Possess excellent people skills and be passionate about helping people obtain and sustain successful homeownership.
  • Ensure agency and individual compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, audit provisions, and grant requirements.
  • Must be open to travel for training, occasional meetings, and events as needed.
  • Conduct individualized advising sessions with clients interested in purchasing a home.
  • Utilize one-on-one coaching methods to build and strengthen relationships and rapport with participants via phone, in-person, video, email, and/or text.
  • Maintain timely and accurate data entry and reporting.
  • Connect participants with appropriate community agencies and resources as needed.

Requirements

  • 2 years of lending experience, or comparable, with strong skills in credit and income analysis.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a high production environment, requiring enthusiasm, self-motivation, and positive attitude.
  • Advanced understanding of factors affecting borrower's successful homeownership and working knowledge of the entire loan process.
  • Strong Organizational skills.
  • Self-motivation with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of community programs and resources.
  • Experience teaching financial literacy and/or asset-building activities with economically disadvantaged populations.
  • Ability to work independently in a team setting.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
