About the position

The Associate School Athletic Director at Farrington High School plays a crucial role in supporting the School Athletic Director in managing the school's athletic programs. This position is a limited term temporary appointment, which means that probationary service credit and tenure are not granted. The Associate Athletic Director will assist in developing the school athletic budget, ensuring compliance with departmental rules and regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records. They will also be responsible for inventory management of supplies and equipment, making recommendations for replacements or purchases, and ensuring that the athletic program adheres to Title IX and other relevant laws and regulations. In addition to financial oversight, the Associate Athletic Director will promote high standards of conduct and sportsmanship among student-athletes, assist in implementing policies to curb student violence, and prepare eligibility lists for sports participation. They will also organize athletic awards programs, assist in staff onboarding, and may provide training workshops for coaches. The role requires coordination of interscholastic and intramural games, as well as planning and supervising trips for athletic teams. The Associate Athletic Director will maintain a filing system for athletic department matters and supervise the re-entry of injured athletes into competition. The position also involves fostering good school-community relations, coordinating game support services, and ensuring that all athletes have the necessary parental consent and medical clearances before participating in sports. The Associate Athletic Director will assist in selecting and evaluating athletic coaches and staff, and will serve as the Acting School Athletic Director in their absence. This role is vital for the overall success and integrity of the school's athletic programs, ensuring that they operate smoothly and effectively while promoting student welfare and achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing the school athletic budget and expenditure plans.
  • Support the School Athletic Director in maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Assist with inventory management of supplies and equipment.
  • Provide recommendations for developing rules and regulations for the athletic program.
  • Ensure compliance with Title IX and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Promote high standards of conduct and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
  • Assist in preparing student eligibility and participation lists for all sports.
  • Organize athletic awards programs and staff onboarding.
  • Coordinate training workshops for coaches.
  • Plan and coordinate interscholastic and intramural games and matches.
  • Assist in developing and administering the intramural program.
  • Support student-athletes in seeking athletic scholarships and planning post-high school experiences.
  • Supervise trips for athletic teams and maintain a report-filing system for athletic matters.
  • Assist in supervising the re-entry of injured athletes into competition.
  • Maintain and distribute current school athletic policy handbooks and sports rules.
  • Coordinate transportation needs for athletic teams and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Foster school-community relations and prepare news releases about the athletic program.
  • Coordinate game support services and supervise home games in the absence of the School Athletic Director.
  • Assist in scheduling and directing the use of athletic facilities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, preferably in education or sports administration.
  • Thirty-six months of successful work experience as an assistant athletic director, high school head coach, or in a related field.
  • Possession of certification from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of athletic administration, budgeting, crowd management, fundraising, and public relations.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate school athletic activities.

Nice-to-haves
