About the position

The Honors Program Assistant Director at the University of Nebraska at Omaha plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the University Honors Program. This position involves teaching, providing academic advising, managing administrative tasks, and engaging in recruitment efforts to foster student success and enhance the overall educational experience for Honors students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one course in the University Honors Program curriculum each semester, according to the position holder's area of expertise and curricular needs.
  • Provide professional academic advising for Honors students, including assisting in the development of academic advisement support materials.
  • Monitor and assist in advising or directing students engaged in special activities, such as internships or FUSE, and develop auxiliary study strategies and tutorial materials.
  • Prepare regular reports by collecting and managing student data, monitoring statistics such as retention and graduation rates.
  • Oversee correspondence, manage reimbursements, handle student employment matters, and coordinate facilities as the front line face of Honors for students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Play a key role in event planning for Honors and manage the program budget in collaboration with the Director.
  • Offer prospective students personalized guidance through recruiting events, meetings, and transcript evaluation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with Honors students.
  • Experience mentoring or advising students on their academic journeys.
  • Some general office/clerical experience.
  • Experience as a successful teacher of Honors.

  • Proven teaching experience and expertise.
  • Familiarity with advising needs and University electronic systems.
  • Experience with an Honors program and in a University setting.
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and maintaining electronic calendars.
