About the position

The Hospice Bereavement and Volunteer Manager at VNA of Care New England is responsible for overseeing the recruitment, orientation, and management of Spiritual Care Coordinators, Medical Social Workers, and hospice volunteers. This role involves coordinating bereavement activities and counseling services, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with the patient care team to address patient and family needs during and after hospice care.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits, hires, trains, supports, and evaluates volunteers.
  • Manages Social Workers and Spiritual Care Coordinators, including performance evaluations and documentation audits.
  • Coordinates volunteer and bereavement services for hospice patients as required by regulations.
  • Acts as the Hospice Bereavement Activities Coordinator, providing support groups and bereavement counseling.
  • Participates in clinical supervision with licensed and non-licensed clinicians.
  • Acts as a liaison with clergy and congregations during patient illness and bereavement.
  • Documents bereavement activities in the EMR, including phone calls and assessments.
  • Assists in preparations for memorial services and community outreach activities.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary group meetings to identify patient needs and document interventions.
  • Maintains agency statistics and participates in quality improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Divinity in Spiritual Care/Chaplaincy or Social Work or Counseling, or equivalent experience in bereavement.
  • 3-5 years of experience in social work or related field within a home health care/hospice setting.
  • Experience in grief or loss counseling.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and current automobile liability insurance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bereavement support and volunteer experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer systems required.
