About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Optim Health System plays a pivotal role in directing the financial planning and accounting practices of the organization. This position is crucial for maintaining the financial health of the health system, which includes a network of highly skilled physicians and specialty-focused facilities. The CFO will oversee various departments including Finance, Revenue, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Information Technology, and Materials at a system level. The role requires a strategic mindset to interact with management staff in developing the organization's strategic plan and its financial planning component. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing and directing budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, long-range forecasting, and insurance activities. This includes evaluating the organization's financial position and issuing periodic reports on financial stability, liquidity, and growth. The CFO will also develop and implement financial policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with internal controls and generally accepted accounting principles. In addition to financial oversight, the CFO will supervise the revenue department and analyze costs to make rate recommendations that ensure appropriate income and cash flow. The preparation and issuance of the organization's annual tax and other reports will also fall under the CFO's purview, along with the preparation or review of financial statements for the Board. The role involves training finance and other staff to raise awareness and knowledge of financial management matters, working closely with the CEO on strategic vision, and participating in the development of new business opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the organization's financial planning and accounting practices.
  • Oversee and direct budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, long-range forecasting, and insurance activities.
  • Evaluate the organization's financial position and issue periodic reports on financial stability, liquidity, and growth.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Assure implementation of internal controls and generally accepted accounting procedures.
  • Oversee and direct the revenue department.
  • Supervise the analysis of costs and make rate recommendations to ensure appropriate income/cash flow.
  • Oversee and direct the preparation and issuance of the organization's annual tax and other reports.
  • Prepare or review financial statements for the Board.
  • Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization's mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans.
  • Train the Finance and other staff on raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters.
  • Work with the CEO on the strategic vision including fostering and cultivating relationships, as well as assisting in the development and negotiation of contracts.
  • Participate in developing new business, assist the CEO in identifying new opportunities, drafting prospective budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of prospective new business.
  • Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization.
  • Oversee all purchasing activity.
  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization.
  • Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or finance is required.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Eight to 10 years of experience in financial/accounting management is required.
  • Experience in health care financial management is required.
