About the position

The Hospital Director for the Foster Hospital for Small Animals at Tufts University is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic vision, financial management, operations, and medical care of the hospital. This position plays a crucial role in expanding the hospital's physical footprint to enhance its clinical, educational, and research missions. The director will lead a team of academic clinicians and support staff, ensuring the hospital's success while fostering an inclusive environment for teaching and research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of the strategic vision for the Foster Hospital for Small Animals.
  • Manage financial operations and budget planning for the hospital.
  • Oversee medical care and human resources for faculty and staff.
  • Lead the house officer clinical programs and infrastructure development.
  • Collaborate with the hospital management group and advisory board to ensure operational success.
  • Participate in the proposed expansion of the hospital's physical footprint.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty and staff to motivate and delegate responsibilities.

Requirements

  • DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) or equivalent with eligibility for a veterinary license in MA.
  • Ten or more years of experience in leadership roles in a small animal specialty and emergency referral hospital or a large primary care small animal hospital.
  • Experience in an academic veterinary environment is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on transparent and collaborative management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Functional understanding of budget management and fiscal planning.
  • Experience in strategic planning and setting organizational directions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board certification in an American veterinary specialty college or equivalent is an asset.
  • Experience in creating an inclusive environment in teaching, research, and clinical activities.
