About the position

Ethos Veterinary Health is seeking an energetic, people-first leader to take on the role of Hospital Director at the South Asheville Veterinary Emergency and Specialty (SAVES) hospital. This position is pivotal in ensuring that the hospital continues to provide a total pet health care environment with superior customer service, meeting the needs of pets, clients, and referring veterinarians. The SAVES hospital operates 24/7/365, offering a wide variety of emergency and specialty veterinary services. Recently, the hospital has undergone significant expansion, more than doubling its square footage and adding a fully operational emergency room, along with a rooftop deck for employee enjoyment. The Hospital Director (HD) will be responsible for driving profitable future growth and organizational development within the hospital. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic business leader with a proven track record, thriving in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. They will be passionate about developing and leading team members and organizations, possess above-average emotional intelligence, and value data-driven analysis and decision-making, alongside the importance of the human-animal bond. In this role, the HD will directly oversee all operations and business activities, leading staff across all departments. They will partner effectively with the Medical Director to ensure high-quality patient care and will demonstrate a strategic orientation by translating a vision into actionable plans. The HD will also be responsible for shaping a positive hospital culture based on trust and teamwork, catering to the needs of clients and referring veterinarians. Additionally, the HD will develop a deep understanding of the local market and relationships with referring veterinarians to identify and execute growth plans, including the addition of new services and recruitment of key team members.

Responsibilities

  • Directly oversee all operations and business activities of the hospital.
  • Partner effectively with the Medical Director to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Translate a vision into actionable plans and manage operations to achieve objectives.
  • Facilitate resolution of issues within the hospital through the leadership team.
  • Shape a positive hospital culture based on trust and teamwork.
  • Provide resources, support, and supervision for hospital staff.
  • Develop an understanding of the local market and relationships with referring veterinarians.
  • Identify and execute short- and long-term plans for growth, including new services and recruitment.
  • Responsible for accounting and finance processes, including creating an annual operating budget.
  • Lead hospital financial activities and apply continuous improvement principles to financial processes.
  • Drive results across all elements of the business and evaluate progress toward goals.
  • Partner with technology providers to enhance hospital activities and client experience.
  • Direct growth activities to support business objectives and provide coaching to the leadership team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive operational management experience with a record of success, including managing a P&L.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Veterinary Specialty and Emergency experience required.
  • Ability to learn quickly and absorb new information rapidly.
  • Self-motivated with expertise in motivating, coaching, and inspiring others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
