About the position

The Hospital Veterinarian II at Petco is a vital role within the Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals, focusing on providing high-quality veterinary care to pets. This position emphasizes patient care, teamwork, and continuous improvement in veterinary practices, ensuring that the needs of pets and their owners are prioritized. The veterinarian will work closely with a supportive team and utilize advanced medical equipment to deliver exceptional care and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care.
  • Utilize a problem-based approach to develop complete problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and appropriate treatments.
  • Document all patient observations, findings, treatments, and client interactions in the medical record accurately.
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory surgeries, and mass removals.
  • Conduct routine and complex dental procedures, including full dental examinations and extractions.
  • Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization and ensure effective communication with referral hospitals.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian in the state of practice or ability to obtain by start date.
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License, if applicable.
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date.
  • Comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries including spays, neuters, and dental procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
