About the position

The Hospitality Sales Manager (HSM) at Beringer Winery is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all guest interaction programming and ensuring financial deliverables are met. This position is essential in creating a safe and welcoming environment for both employees and guests, while also curating and delivering exceptional guest service. The HSM will be tasked with achieving key sales metrics, including club conversion rates, net sales revenue, sales per guest, and effective data capture. Additionally, the role involves developing engaging and relevant guest programming and consumer events that enhance the overall visitor experience. In terms of operational responsibilities, the HSM will manage overhead costs, particularly labor and cost of goods sold (COGS) related to tours and tastings. This includes training team members and fostering a high-performance culture within the team. The role also encompasses operational and sales budget management, ensuring that financial targets are met while maintaining the quality of service. The HSM will oversee the maintenance and landscaping of the winery's building and grounds, ensuring that the historical site is well-represented in the community. Other key responsibilities include staff performance management, succession planning, conducting market research, and competitive benchmarking. The HSM will also be responsible for managing and planning incentive programs, overseeing inventory and merchandise, resolving customer issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations. This role is critical to the Direct to Consumer (DTC) team and requires a leader who embodies the company's values of collaboration, courage, and authenticity.

Responsibilities

  • Create and ensure a safe environment for employees and guests.
  • Curate, lead and deliver exceptional guest service.
  • Deliver key sales metrics including club conversion, net sales revenue, sales per guest, and data capture.
  • Develop engaging and relevant guest programming and consumer event programs.
  • Manage overheads and cost controls, especially labor and COGS for tours and tastings.
  • Train team members and cultivate a high-performance culture.
  • Manage operational and sales budgets.
  • Oversee the maintenance and landscaping of the building and grounds.
  • Represent the Beringer brand in the community as a steward of a historical site.
  • Manage staff performance and succession planning.
  • Conduct market research and competitive benchmarking.
  • Plan and manage incentive programs.
  • Manage inventory and merchandise.
  • Resolve customer issues and manage compliance.
  • Implement all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) topics and training, managing all required compliance reporting.

Requirements

  • BS degree or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 3 years in a similar retail or sales leadership role in the hospitality industry.
  • Preferred experience as a tasting room manager, hotel front desk manager, or hotel shift manager.
  • Experience leading teams with a proven track record of supervising, leading, and coaching sales teams of more than 15 employees.
  • P&L responsibility managing revenue of $2 million or more, or the ability to do so.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach others.
  • Knowledge of food and wine, the wine industry, and competitive offerings in the Napa and Bay Area hospitality market.
  • Proven track record of leading others and delivering results against defined targets.
  • Working knowledge of winery POS systems, calendar programs, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong customer service and sales aptitude.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs (a case of wine).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the wine industry is ideal but not essential.
  • Familiarity with event planning and execution in a hospitality setting.
